As human beings, we all face challenges in life. Sometimes, these challenges can be overwhelming, and we may feel like giving up on our mission or purpose in life. In times like this, a little encouragement can go a long way in helping us to persevere and overcome the obstacles in our paths.
Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love quotes and use them often in my coaching, training and speaking. There are many encouraging quotes out there, but one that stands out is by the renowned author and motivational speaker Zig Ziglar. He once said, "People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."
This quote is a great reminder that just like we need to bathe every day to keep our bodies clean and healthy, we also need daily doses of motivation and encouragement to keep us going. Life is full of ups and downs, and sometimes, we can easily lose sight of our goals and aspirations. However, by making a conscious effort to seek out encouragement and motivation every day, we can stay focused and motivated, no matter what challenges we face.
At the time of this blog post, I am in the midst of a bout of shingles. If you have had shingles, you know what I mean!! If you haven’t. well….good for you! Let me tell you a little bit about shingles though. For me, shingles started as just a small prickly feeling in the middle of my back, but quickly turned into the worst upper back pain I have ever experienced. I’ve had kidney stones which ranked a 10 on the pain scale, and the shingles pain was an 8. Shingles often ends up turning into a nice blistery rash that runs along a nerve. Mine is in the middle of my spine and the nerve pain runs out to my left side and causes this deep, burning pain. Needless to say, I needed some encouragement during this time. My blistery rash is starting to heal but looks like it's going to take another week or so. The pain is manageable with the prescription drugs and tylenol, but I’m definitely needing a bit of extra encouragement these days.
Encouragement can come in many forms, such as kind words from a friend or loved one, positive feedback from a boss or colleague, or even a quote like the one by Zig Ziglar. The important thing is to be open to receiving encouragement and to seek it out when we need it.
So, the next time you're feeling down or discouraged, remember that everyone needs a little encouragement sometimes. Take a moment to reflect on what motivates and inspires you, and seek out the encouragement you need to keep moving forward. As Zig Ziglar reminds us, motivation may not last forever, but by making it a daily practice, we can build resilience and overcome any obstacles that come our way.
